On 25th April 2021, Liana Bridges and Barry Lewis from BBC Radio Essex came to St Botolph’s for a live broadcast as part of their Essex Quest programme. The team has to solve 3 cryptic clues with audience help, each of which leads them to a specific Essex destination, not more than 15 miles away.
At each of three destinations, the team interviews a local person about the object or place targeted in the Quest. The answer to the first clue given to them in Steeple Bumpstead was our ancient North door at St Botolph’s. Richard Dolby, Paula Griffiths and Roger Mance welcomed the team in front of the church and Richard, as Chair of the Hadstock Society, was interviewed by Liana about the door, history of the church and Hadstock’s 2020 Millennium celebrations.
